THE GIFT or a gift

Why are we always looking for a gift, or to receive something?  Well it seems that it will make you feel better, or know somebody thought of you for what ever occasion it was given.  But if you have received The Gift, it has a continuos giving to those who receive it.  Lets look at the word 'gift' at first.  The New World Dictionary defines the word gift as 1. something given to show friendship, affection, support, etc,; present 2. the act, power, or right of giving.  We see in this that these are material things, a gift of clothing soon becomes too small or wears out, a toy either becomes broken or not played with after it becomes old, some consumable gifts are long forgotten after there consumed, or if the gift is not to your taste its either returned or given to someone else.

With this in mind lets look at The Gift of God, open your bible to Ephesians 2 verse 8 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: “.  The gift of God, well what is this gift that God gave.  John 3 verse 16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son (Christ Jesus), that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.“ Will we see know the Gift of God, his only begotten Son, Christ Jesus, he gave to all that would believe, i.e. have faith in him, to be saved, and have life everlasting.  What a gift this is an everlasting gift it won't wear out or get to small, it cannot be consumed and forgotten, not returnable, but it is sometimes received and stuck away as a secret.

What a gift we have (if you are a born again child of God)and need to share it with others, that reminds of when Jesus was at the well with the woman of Samaria, he said "If thou knowest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given the living water."  If you are a born again child of God then you have this gift, and are to be offering to others.  Living water something that will not end, having received Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour being now indwelled by the Holy Spirit, commanded to go and tell others of Gods saving grace, by offering the Gift that keeps on giving.

Lets look at Roman's 5 verse 15 to 18 “But not as the offence, so also is the free gift.  For if through the offence of one (Adam) many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.  16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgement was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification.  17 For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.  18 Therefore by the offence of one judgement came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.  So by Adam's sin men entered in condemnation so by Gods gift of his Son man came into justification, if they would just believe.”  The gift God has to offer to all who would believe cannot be lost, destroyed, wear out, be consumed it needs only to be passed on.  Only by man's choice can it be received and then be given to others so they also can be receivers of the gift of life.  A free gift given by one that loved the world to give of his only begotten, how hard we sometimes find it to even share things we only have one off.  We borrow thing to have to return them, were as the gift of God once received is so abounding it can be given and never feel that anything was lost, but that the gift will seem even greater.

In 1 Peter 4 verse 10 ‘As every man (woman) hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”  The Gift of God, his only begotten Son Jesus Christ, if you are a born again child of God then you are commanded to minister the gift one to another.  Go and take the gift you freely received upon your belief on the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and give it to others.  The gift of everlasting life never to wear out, get to small, lose it color, be consumed and forgotten, but to be preached to a lost and dying world in need of a Saviour.

We sometimes allow ourselves to be consumed in what to get somebody for an occasion, birthday, valentines, christmas, or many other occasions that the world likes to promote their material gifts.  I would hope that as a child of God we would do our best to lift up our Lord and Saviour at all occasions, for it is by God's grace that we have what we have, and having received the Gift of God, we are commanded to tell others.

In closing lets look at Romans 6 verse 23 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ.”  Of all the gifts you have received in your life can any compare to the gift God gave us who have believed in Christ Jesus, eternal life.  We have been left here with a purpose to tell others of this un-definable gift, Christ Jesus, God's only begotten son who paid the price for our sins on the cross of Calvary, was buried, and rose again the third day.  Will you take advantage of letting others know of this Gift that you received freely.  The Gift is available to all who believe, you don’t have to wait for a sale, a special, an occasion, today is the right day for receiving Christ Jesus as your Lord and Saviour.
